- Without affecting the generality of (a) above, Safaricom Ethiopia shall not be liable to you for any breach of these terms and conditions or failure to perform any obligations as a result of technical problems relating to its network, termination of any license to operate or use the network, act of God, government control, restrictions or prohibitions or other government act or omission, whether local or national, act of default of any supplier, agent or sub-contractor, industrial disputes or any other cause beyond Safaricom Ethiopia's control.

- These terms and (where applicable) the relevant additional terms that you accept as part of the registration or purchasing process for a service or product and (if applicable) any third-party terms and conditions, form the entire understanding between you and us concerning your use of the site and services and supersede all previous agreements relating to such use.

Welcome to Safaricom
These Terms and Conditions govern and provide information on the Use of Prepay Products and Services and constitute an agreement between You (Customer) and Safaricom when you Use these Products and Services.
Definition
- “A Person with Parental Authority” means the birth parents of a minor, a legal guardian of a minor, or another person who can demonstrate legitimate authority over a minor’s affairs.
- “Consumer Code” means a Code of conduct which reflects the rights of our Consumers when using our Products and Services, and the process to follow when they are unhappy with our Products and Services and how we serve them.
- “Minimum Airtime Credit” means the minimum airtime balance that you should have in your account to successfully access our Products and Services. This includes, for example, making a call, sending Short Message Services (SMS), and using data.
- “Minor” means a person under the age of eighteen (18) years.
- “MSISDN” means the mobile number issued to you after you successfully register on the Safaricom (our) network. This number is unique to you and shall be the number that we identify you with.
- “Network” means the public telecommunications system operated and made available by Safaricom to enable you to Use our services.
- “Prepay” means Product and Services which require you to pay in advance to Use such Products and Services.
- “Products and Services” means basic voice, SMS, data, voice mail, international dialing, international roaming, and/or any other product and services that Safaricom makes available to you from time to time.
- “Regulatory Authority” means the Ethiopian Communications Authority or any similar authority that is established in the future to perform or take over the functions of the Ethiopian Communications Authority.
- “Safaricom” means Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC.
- “SIM Card” means a card allocated to you to be inserted into your phone. The card contains your mobile number and allows You to Use our Products and Services.
- “Tariffs” means Safaricom’s charges for Use of the Services and will include the underlying terms and conditions relevant to the Products and Services as varied from time to time.
- “Tariff Guide” means a guidance catalogue of Products and Services and charges as published from time to time.
- “Use” means, the making of any chargeable outbound calls, sending chargeable SMSs, accessing data services, re-charging of your account, and for any other Use or access to the Products and Services, in general.
- “Value Added Services” (VAS) means add-ons to Products and Services such as music, gaming, videos.
ACCEPTANCE AND COMMENCEMENT
These Terms and Conditions shall begin to apply to you after you successfully register on our Network as a customer and Your SIM Card is activated; and shall continue to be binding on you for as long as you continue to Use our Products and Services.
USE OF PRODUCTS AND SERVICES
- Safaricom will make reasonable efforts to always make available the Products and Services to you. However, please be aware that the Products and Services may not always be available due to events beyond Safaricom’s control, such as acts of God, an act of government or regulatory authority, war, riot or civil commotion, interruptions for maintenance, or due to electricity outages which may sometimes affect the quality and availability of Products and Services. In such cases, Safaricom will not be responsible for any harm or damage to you.
- Use of our data services may be controlled from time to time by limiting the volume or speed or duration of downloads to facilitate fair use of the Products and Services by all customers. This is done to stabilize the network and ensure all other customers within the area are receiving service at an acceptable speed.
- To Use our Products and Services, you must have Minimum Airtime Credit on your Sim Card. This amount will depend on the Products and Services that you want to Use. This will not apply to calls made to Safaricom’s Call Centre and any other toll-free numbers. Such calls shall be free.
- Safaricom will not allow any “proxy registration” of a SIM Card for another person, except registration of SIM Cards for and on behalf of Minors or any person which the law allows for management of his/her affairs by another person under a Power of Attorney or any other legal instrument under the laws of Ethiopia. When onboarding a Minor, a Person with Parental Authority may open and maintain an account in their name for and on behalf of the Minor until the Minor becomes eighteen (18) years. A similar process shall be followed by any person who is legally empowered to act for and on behalf of another person. In each case, Safaricom reserves the right to verify the authenticity of the Parental Authority, Power of Attorney, or any legal document presented to it.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AND COMMITMENTS
- You agree to comply with all other relevant guidelines and/or policies that Safaricom may issue from time to time regarding the Use of the Products and/or Services.
- You agree to abide by these terms and conditions and any laws that apply to you for registration of your SIM card and your Use of the Products and Services
- You will not Use the Products and Services for any purpose that causes a nuisance or is abusive, offensive, illegal, fraudulent, or for any activities that are criminal under the laws of Ethiopia.
- You will not sell the Products and Services without Safaricom’s permission in writing.
- Safaricom may provide access to and/or offer the services of third parties such as Value-Added Services from time to time. Safaricom shall clearly communicate the terms and conditions which apply to the services. It is your responsibility to read and understand the terms of such services before you Use them. Safaricom will not in any way be responsible for any loss, nuisance, or damage that may be suffered by you concerning such services.
SIM CARD AND NUMBERS
- The mobile number allocated to you will always remain the property of Safaricom and is issued to you together with the SIM Card, subject to these terms and conditions:
- If Your SIM Card is lost, damaged, or stolen, you must immediately contact Safaricom at our nearest retail store or the Call Centre by calling 700. Safaricom will then, upon verification of the original registration and the ownership of the SIM Card, lock the SIM Card to prevent further usage of Products and Services being made from your MSISDN and make any necessary arrangements for you to buy a replacement SIM Card.
- You will be responsible for all usage charges up to the time of locking of the SIM Card by Safaricom following the process outlined in Clause 5.1.1 above.
- Safaricom may charge you a reasonable administrative fee for replacing and delivering the replacement SIM Card. The fee shall be available on our website at www.safaricom.et, our retail stores or Call Centre.
- Safaricom may offer you the opportunity to select the desired number (“Golden Number”). However, please note that the Golden Number will depend on the availability of the preferred number and there are different Tariffs for each Golden Number category. You can find out the Tariffs for the Golden Number you want from our website at www.safaricom.et, our retail stores or Call Centre.
- You may also reserve your existing number such that it is not terminated when not in Use in line with Clause 9.5. A reasonable fee will also be applied for this service. Please visit our website at www. safaricom.et, or our retail stores or call our Call Centre to find out about this service and applicable Tariffs.
- If Safaricom is forced to change or reassign your MSISDN to meet regulatory requirements or other legal requirements, we will attempt to notify you of this requirement with no liability to us.
- Your mobile number will always be identifiable when calling 991 or 112 or any other emergency assistance number.
- In the case where we have a facility/service which eliminates the presentation of your number (i.e., for calls other than emergency calls), Safaricom may charge you a reasonable fee for such a facility. Please visit our website at www.safaricom.et, our retail stores or call our Call Centre to find out about this service and applicable Tariffs.
- For your protection, you must keep confidential all personal identification or security numbers relating to your Use of the Products
and Services. This applies to your SIM Card and/or mobile or any other device. - The numbers and codes that Safaricom allows you to Use the Products and Services will always remain the property of Safaricom.
INTERNATIONAL ROAMING
- International Roaming allows you to Use the Products and Services when travelling outside Ethiopia.
- Access to International roaming networks will depend upon the arrangements between the foreign network operators and Safaricom and as such, the service will only be available in certain foreign countries. We will provide a list of countries that you will be able to roam on our website at www.safaricom.et, our retail stores, or upon your request to the Safaricom Call Centre.
- We do not have full control over your International Roaming Tariffs. We only have control over our International Roaming tariffs set out
in our Tariff Guide. The total charges applicable to International Roaming services come from the International Roaming network (which may include a minimum charge) plus Safaricom’s charges at the prescribed rates set out in the Tariff Guide. Please make sure that you have sufficient credit to enable you to Use the International Roaming service.
CHARGES AND PAYMENTS
- You will be responsible for all the applicable Tariffs for using the Products and Services whether the Use of the Product and Services occurred through you or someone else with or without your authority or knowledge.
- Our Tariffs will be listed in the Tariff Guide. We will publish rates on our website at www.safaricom.et, our retail stores and by text message at the customer’s request.
- Our Tariffs include Value Added Tax as well as any other taxes which apply to communication in respect of the Products and Services.
- We may change the Tariffs and Tariff Guide from time to time. When this happens, we will publish the changes on our website at www. safaricom.et and will make reasonable efforts to tell you about the changes in any other way available to Safaricom including SMS, email or at retail stores, as applicable.
BILLING
Upon Your request in writing, we will provide you with your billing information in paper or digital format, either by e-mail or SMS.
SUSPENSION AND DEACTIVATION OF THE SERVICE
- Safaricom may suspend, restrict, or terminate the provision of some or all the Products and Services without informing you and without any liability under the following circumstances:
- If Safaricom becomes aware or has reason to believe that your Use of the Products and Services is unauthorized, unlawful, fraudulent, or contrary to these terms and conditions.
- If there has not been the Use of the Products and Services for a period of over one hundred and eighty (180) days.
- If you notify us that your SIM Card has been lost or stolen.
- If you do anything (or allow anything to be done) which may, in Safaricom’s view, damage or affect the operation or security of the Products and Services; and/or
- or reasons beyond Safaricom’s control.
Safaricom will, where possible, try to inform you that such action is or may be taken.
- Where your SIM Card has been deactivated permanently, any credit balance in your account will be forfeited.
- Where Safaricom has suspended or restricted access to the Products and Services for any of the reasons under 9.1, any reconnection will be at Safaricom’s discretion, and a reconnection fee may be charged. Please visit our website at www.safaricom.et, our retail stores or call our Call Centre to find out about this service and applicable Tariffs.
- Following the deactivation of your SIM Card, Safaricom reserves the right to recycle the mobile number and make it available for sale to another customer. Safaricom will not be liable to you for the deactivated number.
- Where you ask us to reserve your number such that it is not terminated for not being in Use, such number can only be reserved for up to twelve (12) months from the date of notification. Thereafter, it will be terminated after one hundred and eighty (180) days of no activity or no notice to further reserve the number.
RECHARGES
- You may recharge your account at any time via:
- SMS- send the Airtime Pin via SMS to 705
- IVR (Interactive Voice Record) - Call 705
- USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) - Dial *705# and follow the prompts
- The balance included in your Prepay Plan is available for you to Use for two hundred seventy (270) days (the “Validity Period”).
- You must recharge your account to extend the Validity Period of your airtime validity period.
GENERAL
- Safaricom will inform you about any changes to these terms and conditions within a reasonable time, by publishing the changed terms and conditions on Safaricom’s website at www.safaricom.et or in any other relevant way available to it, including by SMS and voicemail.
- If there are any differences between the printed version of these terms and conditions and the online version available on Safaricom’s website at www.safaricom.et, the online version will apply.
- The Products and Services which you Use have specific terms and conditions published on our website at www.safaricom.et conditions and any other product-specific terms and conditions, the product-specific terms and conditions will apply to clarify the difference.
- We shall protect and keep your personal information and communication private and shall not disclose it to any unauthorized persons. We shall also only process your information in accordance with the law. How Safaricom processes your personal information is detailed fully in our Privacy Policy, which is on Safaricom’s website at www.safaricom.et or available in our retail stores upon request.
- Safaricom will not be liable for any loss or damage (including indirect loss) relating to the Products and Services, except for any liability accepted by law.
- If any term or condition set out here is not valid or cannot be enforced for any reason, this will not affect the remaining terms and conditions, which will still apply.
- Failure by either Safaricom or you to enforce any rights under these terms and conditions will be without prejudice to any available legal remedies.
LAW AND DISPUTE RESOLUTION
- These terms and conditions are subject to and governed by the laws of Ethiopia.
- Depending on the nature of your complaint, Safaricom aims to resolve it as soon as practically possible to give you a better customer experience as our valued customer. In this regard, Safaricom will endeavor to respond to complaints promptly and give feedback to customers within seven (7) working days.
- For a detailed process on how we will handle Your complaint, please check our Consumer Code. The Consumer Code is accessible on our webpage at www.safaricom.et, our retail stores or the Safaricom Call Centre.
- All disputes which cannot be mutually settled between us will be referred to the Regulatory Authority in line with the applicable law.
Welcome to Safaricom
These Terms and Conditions govern and provide information on the use of Mobile Voice and Data Prepay Bundle Service (“the Service”) and constitute an agreement between You (as Safaricom Enterprise Customer) and Safaricom when using these Services.
Definition
- “Bundle” means the specific allocation of resources (mobile voice or data or a combination of both).
- “Enterprise Base Tariff” means the default rate per second, per SMS or per Megabyte (MB) that applies to an Enterprise Customer for
making voice calls, sending SMS messages, or browsing the web without purchasing a pre-pay bundle. - “Enterprise Customer or Customer or You” means a registered business, company and any organization including but not limited to government entities, embassies, and Non-Governmental Organizations.
- “In-bundle” means any usage of voice calls, SMS and mobile data by the Customer within a certain allowance or limit of SMS, bytes and/ or time using the preferential rates.
- “Loyalty Program” means a loyalty scheme where Customers earn points through their usage of products and Services.
- “My Data Manager” means an application (App) that helps you to monitor and manage your mobile data usage in real-time.
- “Off-Net Calls” means calls made from a Safaricom Mobile Number to a Mobile Number of another licensed Telecommunications Operator in Ethiopia.
- “On-Net Calls” means calls placed from a Safaricom Mobile Number to another Safaricom Mobile Number.
- “Out-of-Bundle” means any usage of voice calls, SMS and mobile data by the Customer in excess of the allowance included in the In bundle Allowance.
- “Preferential Tariff Rates” means special or in-bundle tariff rates applicable for the Service.
- “USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data) Menu” means Safaricom’s interactive menu on the Customer’s device which can be accessed by dialing the short code notified to the Customer by Safaricom.
- “Safaricom” means Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia Plc.
- “Services” means Mobile Voice and/or Data Prepay Bundle.
- “Tariff Guide” means a guidance catalogue of Products and Services and charges as published from time to time.
Eligibility
This Service is available to Safaricom Prepay Enterprise Customers.
The Service
The Service provides You with the opportunity to subscribe to either Mobile Voice or Data Bundles, or both.
Joining and Usage of the Service
- Once You are registered as an Enterprise Customer, You will be onboarded onto the Enterprise Base Tariff which has default rates for Voice, Data and SMS. The Enterprise Base Tariff will also be the applicable rate for any Out-of-Bundle usage.
- You may purchase the Bundles at any time through the USSD menu by dialing 777 and following the prompts. You will then have a view of the available monthly Prepay Mobile Voice or Data Bundle offer You can purchase.
- When You purchase the relevant Mobile Voice or Data bundle, Safaricom will notify You through the USSD menu or/and SMS once the Bundles have been activated. Bundles will be activated on your registered mobile number(s).
- When You purchase Mobile Voice Bundles and make on-net calls, your calls shall apply the on-net Preferential Tariff rates as described in the Tariff Guide. The rates will be available on our website at www.safaricom.et and/or at our retail stores and through text message at your request.
- When You purchase Mobile Voice Bundles and make off-net calls, your calls will apply the off-net Preferential Tariff rates as described in the Tariff Guide. The rates will be available on our website at www.safaricom.et and/or at our retail stores and through text message at your request.
- Mobile Data Bundles will apply the Preferential Tariff rates as described in the Tariff Guide and published on our website at www. safaricom.et and/or at retail stores.
- Mobile Voice and Data Bundles will have a validity period of 31 (thirty one) calendar days (“Validity Period”), after which the Bundles will expire.
- You may extend the Validity Period of the purchased Mobile Voice or Data Bundle by purchasing any other Mobile Voice or Data Bundle before the lapse of the Validity Period. When You purchase a new Mobile Voice or Data Bundle, the Bundle will take up the validity of the newest purchased Bundle.
- You may carry over your unused Mobile Voice or Data Bundles consecutively for up to 6(six) months in line with clause (h) above, after which the Bundles will expire.
- You may purchase the Bundles for yourself (Enterprise Customer) or for another Enterprise Customer as a gift.
- You may purchase Bundles one-off or on an automatic renewal(recurring) basis. Auto renewal will apply only to purchases for self.
- You may cancel the auto renewal option at any time through the USSD Menu 777.
- Priority of bundle consumption will be on bundles purchased first for both in and out of bundle resources.
- You can check the balance of the Bundles through the USSD menu by dialing 777.
Out of Bundle Usage
- Out of bundle (OOB) will not automatically apply when your data Bundles are used up or expire.
- You may activate and/or deactivate OOB usage through My Data Manager application at anytime to manage your data usage.
- When you activate OOB usage, your data usage will automatically be charged the Enterprise Base Tariff when your bundle expires or is used up.
Exclusions
- This service shall not apply to SMS and any SMS service will apply the Enterprise Base Tariff set out in the Tariff Guide.
- The Service shall not apply to international calls and roaming. Your use of these services will be charged at the prescribed rates set out in the Tariff Guide.
Loyalty Program
- You will accumulate loyalty points at the Enterprise account level; or at the mobile number(s) level by your written instruction to this effect.
- You may redeem loyalty points for Services or/and devices per the prevailing terms and conditions available on our website and /or retail stores.
Service Opt-Out and/or Termination by the Customer
- You may opt out of the service at any time, by dialing 777 on the USSD menu and following the prompts. Alternatively, you may terminate the service through a service termination request letter that is stamped and signed by an authorized representative of the Enterprise.
- The change will be applied the next month.
Variation and Withdrawal of the Service by Safaricom
Safaricom reserves the right to amend or vary these terms and conditions or to withdraw the Service at any time. In any of these events, notice will be given via SMS and/or media advertisements including at Safaricom’s discretion on our website at www.safaricom.et and will be effective immediately or as at the date referred in such notifications.
Privacy
- We shall protect and keep your personal information and communication private and shall not disclose it to any unauthorized persons.
- We shall only process Your information in accordance with the law. How Safaricom processes Your personal information is detailed fully in our Privacy Policy, which is on our website at www.safaricom.et and/or available in our retail stores upon request.
Extension of the Prepay Terms

The Services will be available to you upon registration and activation of your SIM Card. By using these Services, it means you have read, understood, and accepted the terms and conditions set out herein.
These terms and Conditions apply to the following Safaricom services:
- Prepay Voice Packages
- Prepay Data Packages
- Prepay Short Message (“SMS”) Packages
(Collectively, “the Services”).
For the purposes of these terms and conditions:
- “In-Bundle Usage” means any voice calls, data and SMS usage by You within a certain allowance or limit of time, bytes, and/or SMS using Preferential Rates.
- “Off-Net Calls” means calls made from a Safaricom Mobile Number to a Mobile Number of another licensed Telecommunications Operator in Ethiopia.
- “On-Net Calls” means calls placed from a Safaricom Mobile Number to another Safaricom Mobile Number.
- “Out of Bundle Usage” means usage charged directly from your airtime balance for any voice calls, data, and SMS usage by you more than or in the absence of the voice calls, data and SMS allowance included in the In-Bundle Usage.
- “Preferential Rates” means special or in-bundle tariff rates applicable for the Services.
- “Safaricom” means Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC.
Eligibility
- The Services are available to you if you are a Prepay Customer of Safaricom.
- The Services will not be available to you if you are roaming. Applicable roaming tariffs for voice, data, or SMS charges will however apply when you are roaming and will be charged at the roaming rates outlined in our Tariff Guide.
The Services
- The following services will be available to you
- The Voice Packages
- The Data Packages
- The SMS Packages
- The Voice Packages, Data Packages and/or SMS Packages can be purchased for self or another person as a gift.
- To enable gifting, the gifting party must have a sufficient airtime balance.
- Voice Packages, Data Packages and/or SMS Packages which are gifted cannot be reversed.
- Free or promotional Voice Packages, Data Packages and/or SMS Packages cannot be gifted.
- Voice Packages, Data Packages and SMS Packages which are gifted via bundle transfer shall assume the bundle validity period of the purchased bundle.
- Voice Packages, Data Packages and SMS Packages which are gifted via an indirect purchase (buy for another number) shall assume the validity period of the purchased bundle.
- Voice Packages shall call On-Net only and shall apply per minute billing charging. Per minute billing means that you will pay for the full minute from the start of the call. E.g., if you talk for 20 seconds you will be charged for the full minute.
- In respect of SMS Packages, the services will be available for use both On-Net and Off-Net and will be subject to Safaricom’s prevailing tariffs published on www.safaricom.et.
How to Access the Services
- To access the Services, dial *777# from your Safaricom mobile line. You will then have a view of the available Voice Packages, Data Packages and/or SMS Packages offers which you can purchase for self and/or another person.
- Voice Packages, Data Packages and/or SMS Packages can be purchased one-off or auto-renewable (recurring) under daily, weekly or monthly categories at any time, and shall be valid as set out below:
- Daily - Twenty-four (24) hours from the time of purchase.
- Weekly - Seven (7) days from the date of purchase; and
- Monthly - Thirty (30) days from the date of purchase.
- Priority of consumption of Voice Packages, Data Packages, and/ or SMS Packages purchased under the daily, weekly, or monthly categories will depend on the bundle with the earliest expiry date irrespective of the validity period.
- If you have received free or promotional Packages, the utilization of such free or promotional Packages will take precedence over the daily, weekly, or monthly categories.
- You can purchase additional Voice Packages, Data Packages, and/or SMS Packages at any time while having active Voice Packages, Data Packages and/or SMS Packages.
- Where you purchase additional Voice Packages, Data Packages and/ or SMS Packages prior to the expiry of an existing bundle, unused Voice Packages, Data Packages and/or SMS Packages will be carried over to the following day, week or month, as applicable.
- Where there has not been a purchase of additional Voice Packages, Data Packages and/or SMS Packages, unused Voice Packages, Data Packages and/or SMS Packages will be forfeited and will not be carried over to the following day, week or month.
- You can check your Voice Packages, Data Packages and/or SMS Packages balance by dialing *777# or *704#. You can also send any input e.g. character, word, letter via an SMS to 704.
- You will be notified via SMS alert when your remaining Voice Packages, Data Packages and/or SMS Packages reach the following balances:
- Voice Packages - 500 minutes, 100 minutes, 50 minutes, 25 minutes, 10 minutes, 5 minutes and 0 minutes.
- Data Packages - 1000MB, 100MB, 50MB, 10MB and 0MB.
- SMS Packages - 500 SMS, 100 SMS, 50 SMS, 25 SMS, 10 SMS, 5 SMS and 0 SMS.
- Upon exhaustion or expiry of your Voice Packages, Data Packages and/or SMS Packages, you will be redirected to *777# to enable you to purchase additional Voice Packages, Data Packages and/or SMS Packages.
- Out of Bundle Usage
- Out of Bundle Usage in respect of Voice Packages is automatically activated and charged when your Voice Packages are used up, expire or upon un-subscription.
- Out of Bundle Usage in respect of Data Packages is not automatically activated and charged when your data Packages are used up, expire or upon un-subscription. You will have to
enable Out of Bundle Usage via *777# on either a per MB or per minute basis to continue using data. - SMS Out of Bundle Usage in respect of SMS Packages is automatically activated and charged when your SMS Packages are used up, expire or upon un-subscription.
How to Unsubscribe from the Services
- You may unsubscribe from the auto-renewable (recurring) Voice Packages, Data Packages and/or SMS Packages by dialing *777# and following the prompts.
- Once you unsubscribe, you will not be able to buy the packages on an auto renew basis. You will have to dial *777# every time you want to buy a package.
Privacy
- Safaricom shall protect and keep your personal information and communication private and shall not disclose it to any unauthorized persons.
- Safaricom shall also only process your information in accordance with the law.

The Service will be available to you upon registration and activation of your SIM Card. By using the Service, it means you have read, understood, and accepted the terms and conditions set out herein.

For the purposes of these terms and conditions: “Safaricom” means Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC.
Eligibility
The Service is available to you by default provided you are a Safaricom Prepay customer.
The Service
- The Service enables you, as Prepay customer of Safaricom, to call and send SMSs to other mobile users in different parts of the world.
- International calls are charged either on a per minute (1:60) or per second (1:1) unitization. Per second billing means that you only pay for the second you use. E.g. if you talk for 20 seconds you will be charged for 20 seconds. Per minute billing means that you will pay for the full minute from the start of the call. E.g. if you talk for 20 seconds you will be charged for the full minute.
- The list of international destinations that you can call, indicating the destinations which apply the per minute unitization and those which apply the per the second unitization is available on our website at www.safaricom.et or our retail stores or through enquiry at the Call Centre.
- We will also indicate the applicable SMS rates for the various international destinations on our website at www.safaricom.et or our retail stores or through enquiry at the Call Centre.
Activation and Suspension of International Calling and SMS Service
- The Service is activated by default.
- To make a call, dial “+” or “00”, followed by the country code and then the phone number you wish to call.
Billing and Payment Terms
- When you make a call, you will be charged the applicable rate as indicated in our Tariff Guide available on our website at www. safaricom.et or our retail stores or through enquiry at the Call Centre.
- Free minutes, Bonus Airtime and Bonus Resources cannot be used for making international calls unless otherwise stated.
- Different rates will apply for different international destinations. You will be charged the applicable rates for the country you are calling as per the Tariff Guide.
- Safaricom shall charge you a flat rate for using the Service whether you call a mobile number or fixed line and whether the call is made during peak and off-peak periods.
- Safaricom shall charge you for each SMS that you send. One SMS shall contain a maximum of 160 characters in English & 70 characters in other languages/characters.
- You shall not be able to use standard Voice and SMS local packages when sending international SMSs or making international calls.
- You will not be charged for receiving international calls and SMSs in Ethiopia.
Privacy
- Safaricom shall protect and keep your personal information and communication private and shall not disclose it to any unauthorized persons.

SAFARICOM ETHIOPIA PREPAY INTERNATIONAL ROAMING SERVICES TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The following terms and conditions apply to the Safaricom Prepay International Roaming Service (“the Service”). The Service will be available to you upon registration and activation of your SIM Card. By using the Service, it means you have read, understood, and accepted the terms and conditions set out herein.
- Definitions
For the purposes of these terms and conditions:- “International Roaming” means a service which enables you as a Safaricom customer to make and receive voice calls, send and receive SMSs and /or use data services when travelling outside Ethiopia by using the infrastructure of a Host Network.
- “Mobile Originating” or “MO” means a call or SMS originating from your mobile device placed or sent back home (Ethiopia); to a number within the Host Network; or any other international destination while you are using the international roaming service.
- “Mobile Terminating” or “MT” means a call or SMS which terminates or is received on your mobile device while you are using the Service.
- “Safaricom” means Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC.
- “Host Network” means a public mobile network situated in a country other than Ethiopia which permits you to make and receive voice calls, send text messages and use mobile data or access other services by reason of arrangements with Safaricom in accordance with these terms and conditions.
- Eligibility
The Service is available to you provided you are a Safaricom Prepay customer. - The Service
- The Service enables you to receive all services provided by Safaricom when travelling outside Ethiopia including but not limited to making and receiving calls, sending and receiving text messages and using mobile data.
- The Service is only available in countries which Safaricom has established international roaming arrangements with.
- The list of countries in which you will be able to access the Service and International Roaming tariffs is available on our website www.safaricom.et ,our retail stores or through enquiry at the Call Centre.
- You will be able to access our Call Centre when you are using the Service on this number +251 799 000 700. However, calls to the Call Centre while you using the Service are not free. The applicable charge will be specified in our Tariff Guide.
- If you have selected to use the Call Divert Service to another number while using the Service, you will be charged for both incoming and outgoing calls (the divert) to the other number.
- If you have selected to divert your calls to voicemail, you will be charged for both the incoming calls to your mailbox and the outgoing calls you will make to retrieve the voice message while international roaming.
- Host Network(s) may have varying services available and may not have all the services provided by Safaricom. For instance, there will be Host Network(s) with no data services; and other Host Networks (s) with varying data speeds.
- While Safaricom makes every effort to ensure that you receive the SMS notifications when International Roaming, we cannot be held liable for SMSs not received.
- International Roaming may be more expensive compared to your local Safaricom tariffs. Please check the rates applicable to your intended destination(s) available on our website.
- Safaricom will charge You a premium tariff of 499 Birr/Min for making calls to satellite and high-cost destinations when using the service. These destinations are listed on our website at www.safaricom.et. Making international calls to the high-cost destinations while using the service will incur higher charges than the standard tariffs.
- Activation and Suspension of international Roaming Service
- The Service is activated by default for you as a Prepay customer of Safaricom.
- You will be able to top up your account at any time using a Safaricom recharge voucher. You may recharge for yourself, or another person can recharge your account for you.
- Billing and Payment Terms
- You shall be charged different rates for making calls (MO calls), sending SMS (MO SMS) or using data while you use the Service.
- You shall be charged different rates for receiving calls (MT calls), and SMS (MT SMS). This information will be clear in our Tariff Guide.
- When you browse the internet on your phone, you will be charged the applicable rate as indicated in our Tariff Guide.
- You will not be able to access or use your normal local prepay bundles (minutes, SMS, data) or promotional tariffs while you are using the Service.
- Privacy

For the purposes of these terms and conditions:
- Call Completion Services” means miscellaneous services available to you by Safaricom and include, Missed Call Alert Service, Caller Notify Service, Please Call Me Service and Airtime Credit Transfer Service.
- Caller Notify Service” means a service that allows you, as a caller to a third party/called party, to be notified via SMS alert on the availability of the called party.
- Missed Call Alert Service” means a service that allows you to be no- tified using an SMS of people who tried to call you while you were unavailable/unreachable either by your line being busy, your phone being off or out of coverage.
- “Please Call Me Service” means a service that allows you to send a short message service (“SMS”) to another customer, requesting them to call you back even when your mobile balance is zero.
- “Safaricom” means Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC.

The Services are available to you provided you are a Safaricom customer.
The Services
- Missed Call Alert Service
- Missed Called Alert Service is activated by default for you as a customer of Safaricom.
- You will receive an SMS with the below message from the caller’s number when your line is available or within coverage: “I tried to call you on DD-MM-YYYY HH: MM. Please call back”. No further messages will be deposited by the calling party.
- The Missed Called Alert Service is available to you free of charge.
- Caller Notify Service
- Caller Notify Service is activated by default for you as customer of Safaricom.
- You will receive an SMS with the below message from the called party’s number when he/she is available: “You attempted to call me, but I was not available. Please call me back. Thank you.” No further messages will be deposited by the calling party.
- The Caller Notify Service is available to you free of charge.
- Please Call Me Service
- Please Call Me Service is activated by default for you as a customer of Safaricom and shall be available across all networks.
- You may access the Please Call Me Service by (i) dialing *707*mobile number of the other party# ok; or (ii) using Safaricom self-service USSD menu (*777#).
- The Please Call Me Service is available to you free of charge up to five (Messages) per 24 hours (12:00 am – 11.59 pm). You will also get an additional 5 Please call me chargeable Messages each day.
- If you deplete the five (5) free of charge Please Call me Service messages, you may make use of five (5) additional Please Call Me Service (Messages), but you will be charged the applicable rate as indicated in the SMS to be sent to you or our Tariff Guide available on our website at www.safaricom.et. You need to have sufficient balance to make use of the additional chargeable Please Call Me messages.
- A new set of 5 free Please Call Me Messages and 5 additional chargeable Please Call Me Service Messages will be availed every day.
- Remaining free Please Call Me Service messages cannot roll over to the next day.
- You will be alerted via SMS once you have exhausted the free of charge Please Call Me messages and of the availability of up to five (5) chargeable Please Call Me Messages with a corresponding charge per single Please Call Me Service Message.
- Please Call Me Service is not available if you are roaming.

1. Promotion Mechanics
Under the Promotion, participants shall receive an additional bundle when they purchase the Prepay Enterprise voice bundles offers.
2. Eligibility
The Promotion is available to all Safaricom Prepay enterprise customers.
3. Promotion period
3.1 The Promotion will commence on 1st of November 2022 (“effective date”) and will continue for three (3) months (1st of November to 31st of January 2023).
3.2 The Promotion period may be extended at the sole discretion of Safaricom.
4. Prepay Voice Bundles Promotion
4.1 You must have a sufficient balance on your account to purchase the primary bundle.
4.2 You will be provided with a promotional Bundle upon purchasing a primary voice bundle as shown on the table below.

4.4 The Promotional Bundle is not transferrable from one subscriber to another.
4.5 You may purchase the Promotional Bundle for yourself or for another Enterprise Customer (Beneficiary Enterprise Customer). In such case, the Beneficiary Enterprise Customer will receive both the primary bundle and the Promotional Bundle.
4.6 The Prepay Voice Bundle Promotion can only be used to make on-net calls. (Safaricom to Safaricom).
4.7 The promotional bundle shall be allocated simultaneously with the primary bundle such that you will receive a total bundle allocation as reflected in the table above.
4.8 There is no limitation on the bundles and the frequency that you can purchase within the Promotion period. Upon purchase of the primary bundles, you will receive an SMS notification that you have received Promotion bundles in addition to the primary bundles you purchased.

SAFARICOM ETHIOPIA 4G WiFi SERVICES TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The following terms and conditions apply to the Safaricom 4G WiFi Service (“the Service”). By using the Services, it means You (Customer) have read, understood, and accepted the terms and conditions set out herein.
1. Definitions
For the purposes of these terms and conditions:
1.1 “Active” means the SIM Card is still in use and not suspended or deactivated.
1.2 “Primary SIM Card/Number” means your main Safaricom mobile number for communication services and added by You as the number which shall receive notifications on the usage of the 4G WiFi SIM Card.
1.3 “Safaricom” means Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC.
1.4 “Secondary SIM Card” means the Safaricom SIM Card that You purchase to use with the WiFi Device.
1.5 “WiFi” means a facility allowing computers, smartphones, or other devices to connect to the internet or communicate with one another wirelessly within a particular area.
1.6 “WiFi Device” means a device such as a Mi-Fi or router or any other device that allows multiple end users and mobile devices to share mobile broadband Internet connection.
1.7 “4G WiFi Service” or “Service” means a part of Safaricom’s fixed wireless solution that offers internet services that run on Safaricom’s 4G network.
2. The Service
2.1. This Service is a prepay service.
2.2. The Service enables You to access the internet wirelessly anywhere in Ethiopia where there is Safaricom 4G coverage.
2.3. You are not guaranteed that the Service will be available if You access it in an area with no Safaricom 4G network.
2.4. You cannot access the Service when roaming.
2.5. You must purchase and register a Secondary SIM Card which shall be bundled with the WiFi Device.
3. Eligibility
3.1. You must be registered as a new Safaricom customer or an existing customer with an active line.
3.2. You must reside in an area with Safaricom 4G network coverage. To find out if your area is within our 4G coverage please visit https://safaricom.et/index.php/contact-us.
3.3. You must have a Safaricom 4G WiFi Device to use the Service.
3.4. You must have a secondary SIM card.
4. How to Access and Use the Service
4.1. Device
4.1.1 You will be required to purchase a 4G WiFi Device from Safaricom or distributor shops.
4.1.2 You should follow the instructions for use of the WiFi Device which are provided in the manual of the device.
4.1.3 Safaricom reserves the right to determine how many WiFi Devices and SIM Cards You may purchase in line with our numbering Policy.
4.1.4 The 4G WiFi Device is locked to the Safaricom network and can only be used with a Safaricom SIM Card.
4.1.5 The 4G WiFi Device (s) shall be subject to the warranty provided by the manufacturer. Safaricom will support your warranty claim in line with the manufacturer’s warranty terms and conditions. We shall however not support any out-of-warranty claims.
4.2 Primary and Secondary SIM Card
4.2.1 You must purchase and register a Secondary SIM Card which shall be bundled with the WiFi Device.
4.2.2 You will be charged for both the Primary SIM Card and Secondary SIM Card if You are a new Customer.
4.2.3 Upon successful registration of your Secondary SIM Card, You will receive a welcome SMS on the Secondary SIM Card.
4.2.4 After successfully registering your Secondary SIM Card, You should set up your Primary SIM Card to receive all notifications for the Secondary SIM Card through USSD (*777#).
4.2.5 Only the Primary SIM Card (s) can check the balances and account information of the Secondary SIM Card.
4.2.6 The Primary Number can be changed at any time via USSD. Changes made to the Primary Number will take effect immediately.
5. All Packages
5.1 To use the service, You must purchase any of the 4G WiFi packages or mobile data packages availed by Safaricom, on *777# or such platforms which Safaricom shall offer in the future.
5.2 Any registered and active Safaricom customer may purchase a 4G WiFi package for the Secondary SIM Card on *777#. Both the Primary SIM Card and the SIM Card used to make the purchase of the package will receive an SMS confirming the transaction.
5.3 All 4G WiFi packages shall be valid for a period of thirty (30) days from the date of purchase and shall not roll over to the next month (beyond the 30th day).
5.4 You can purchase more than one 4G WiFi package at any given period; However, the consumption priority will be given to the package with the earliest expiry date.
5.5 Should You exhaust your 4G WiFi package (s), You can purchase additional packages through the following prompts:
I. Dial *777# select internet and SMS then select 4G WiFi
II. Enter the number of the Secondary SIM Card.
III. Select your preferred 4G WiFi package.

5.6 If You exhaust the 4G WiFi package and continue using the Service, You will be charged an out-of-bundle data usage at the prevailing out-of-bundle rates.

6. Restrictions
6.1 You may access and use the Service only for personal consumption and shall not resell to any other customer without written confirmation from Safaricom.
6.2 You may not use, nor negligently or intentionally permit others to use, the Service in any manner or for any purpose other than as set out in these Terms and Conditions.
6.3 You may not attempt:
6.3.1 charge any person a fee to access the Service without authorization from Safaricom.
6.3.2 permit, facilitate or condone any other person conducting any of the prohibited activities in this clause, whether using your equipment or otherwise.

These terms and Conditions apply to the Safaricom All-Net Packages hereafter “the Service”.
The “Service” will be available to you upon registration and activation of your SIM Card. By using these Services, it means you have read, understood, and accepted the terms and conditions set out herein.
For the purposes of these terms and conditions:
- Definitions
- All-Network or “All-Net”means the voice and SMS resources can be used to make calls and send SMSs both On-net and Off-net.
- “In-Bundle Usage” means any voice calls and SMS usage by You within a certain allowance or limit of time, bytes, and/or SMS using Preferential Rates.
- “Off-Net Calls” means calls originating from a Safaricom Mobile Number and terminating on a Mobile Number of another licensed Telecommunications Operator in Ethiopia.
- “Off-Net SMS”means a text message sent from a Safaricom Mobile Number to a Mobile Number of another licensed Telecommunications Operator in Ethiopia.
- “On-Net Calls”means calls originating from a Safaricom Mobile Number and terminating on another Safaricom Mobile Number.
- “On-Net SMS” means a text message sent from a Safaricom Mobile Number to another Safaricom Mobile Number.
- “Out of Bundle Usage”means usage charged directly from your airtime balance for any voice calls, data and SMS usage by you more than or in the absence of the voice calls and SMS allowance included in the In-bundle Usage.
- “Per Second Billing”means that you will only pay for the seconds consumed from the start of the call. E.g., if your call lasts for 20 seconds, only 20 seconds will be deducted from your allocation not the full minute.
- “Preferential Rates”means special or in-bundle tariff rates applicable for the Services.
- “Safaricom”means Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC.
- Eligibility
- The Service is available to you if you are a Prepay Customer of Safaricom.
- The Service will not be available to you if you are roaming or making international calls or SMSs. Applicable roaming and international calling and SMS tariffs as outlined in our Tariff Guide will however apply when you roam or make international calls and SMSs.
- The Service
- All-Net packages are daily, weekly and Monthly packages and shall be valid for 24 hours, seven (7) days and thirty (30) days from date of purchase.
- They shall offer a combination of Voice, Data and SMS resources.
- The voice resources shall be used to make On- Net Calls and Off- Net Calls; and the SMS resources shall be used to send both On-Net SMS and Off-Net SMS.
- The In-Bundle Usage of All-Net calls and SMSs shall be charged preferential rates.
- The minutes allocated in the All-Net packages shall apply Per Second Billing charging.
- The data allocated in the All-Net Packages shall apply per volume (MB) charging.
- All- Net packages can be purchased one-off or auto-renewable.
- Gifting
- All-Net packages can be purchased for self or another person as a gift. To enable gifting, the gifting party must have a sufficient airtime balance to purchase the bundle.
- All-Net packages, which are gifted cannot be reversed.
- Free or promotional All-Net packages cannot be gifted.
- All-Net packages, which are gifted shall assume the bundle validity period of the purchased bundle.
- How to Access the Service
- To access the Service, dial *777# from your Safaricom mobile line. You will then have a view of the available All-Net package offers which you can purchase for self and/or another person.
- You may subscribe to more than one package at a time. However, the priority of consumption of packages purchased will depend on the bundle with the earliest expiry date.
- Where you purchase additional All-Net packages prior to the expiry of an existing All-Net bundle, unused resources will be carried over to the following day, week or month.
- Where you do not purchase any additional All-Net packages, unused resources will be forfeited at the end of the day, week or month and will not be carried over to the following month.
- You can check your All-Net packages balance by dialing *777# or *704#. You can also send any input e.g., character, word, letter via an SMS to 704.
- You will be notified via SMS alert when your remaining All-Net packages reach the following balances.
- Voice resources : 500 minutes, 100 minutes, 50 minutes, 25 minutes, 10 minutes, 5 minutes, and 0 minutes.
- SMS resources : 500 SMS, 100 SMS, 50 SMS, 25 SMS, 10 SMS, 5 SMS and 0 SMS. .
- Data resources : 1000MB, 100MB,50MB,10MB and 0MB
- Safaricom reserves the right to change the threshold balances without notice.
- Upon exhaustion or expiry of your All-Net packages, you will be redirected to *777# to enable you to purchase additional package(s).
- Out of Bundle Usage for All- Net Packages:
- Out of Bundle Usage in respect of voice resources is automatically activated and charged when your voice resources are used up or have expired.
- Out of Bundle Usage in respect of data resources is not automatically activated and charged when your data resources are used up, expire or upon un-subscription. You will have to enable Out of Bundle Usage via *777# on either a per MB basis to continue using data.
- Out of Bundle Usage in respect of SMS resources is automatically activated and charged when your SMS resources are used up, expire or upon un-subscription.
- How to Unsubscribe from the Auto renewable Packages
- You may unsubscribe from the auto-renewable (recurring) packages at any time by dialing *777# and following the prompts.
- Once you unsubscribe, your packages will not auto renew, however you will still be able to use any existing package or resources until it is depleted or expires. After unsubscribing from auto-renew packages, you will be required to manually purchase All-Net packages via *777# every time you want to use All-Net resources.
- Privacy
- Safaricom shall protect and keep your personal information and communication private and shall not disclose it to any unauthorized persons.
- Safaricom shall also only process your information in accordance with the law.

The following terms and conditions apply when you purchase a Device along with a SIM Card from Safaricom during the Campaign Period. By using the Services, it means you have read, understood, and accepted the terms and conditions set out herein
- Definitions
For the purposes of these terms and conditions:- “Data Award”means the free data bundle offered by Safaricom for a SIM Card bought with a qualifying Device during the Campaign Period.
- “Campaign” means the SIM Card, data and Device bundle campaign
- “Device” means handset (s) sold by Safaricom at its shops as well as authorized distributor shops.
- “Offer” means a Device bundled with a SIM Card and data

- Campaign Period

- Eligibility
The Offer is open to you when you purchase a qualifying Device along with a Safaricom SIM Card from any Safaricom retail shop or distributor shops. The list of participating Devices may change from time to time. - How to Participate
- You can participate in the Campaign by purchasing a Safaricom SIM Card along with the selected Devices from the Safaricom shop or authorized distributor shops.
- Safaricom reserves the right to suspend or modify the Campaign including any of its elements at any time. We shall notify you of any suspension or modification through our various channels.
- The Offer shall be available on a first come first served basis while stocks last.
- You must initiate a data session by browsing the internet from the Device to receive the Data Award.
- Qualifying Device Models
The list of qualifying Devices shall be displayed in our retail shops or distributor shops or on our website (www.safaricom.et) at Safaricom’s discretion. - SIM Card and Device Bundling
- To get the Data Award, you must also purchase a SIM Card with the Device and register it on the Safaricom network.
- The Data Award amount in respect of each Device type will be determined by Safaricom and the same may be updated by Safaricom at any time.
- Some of the participating Devices are dual SIM devices. In order to get the best experience, please make sure that you use the Safaricom SIM Card in the primary SIM Card slot.
- The Data Award shall be allocated to you upon successful SIM Card registration, latching the Device on the Safaricom network, and starting a data session.
- Safaricom will send you an SMS notifying you of the allocation of your Data Award.
- All Data Awards will have a validity period of 30 days from the date of receiving the award and will not roll over

- “Off-Net Calls” means calls originating from a Safaricom mobile number and terminating on a mobile number of another licensed Telecommunications Operator in Ethiopia
- “Off-Peak Hours” means a period in Ethiopian time that starts at 9:00 pm in the evening and ends at 6:00 am in the morning, every day.
- “Preferential Rate(s)” means special tariff rates applicable for the Services.

- “Tariffs” means Safaricom’s charges for Use of the Services and will include the underlying terms and conditions relevant to the products and services as varied from time to time.
- “Tariff Guide” means a guidance catalogue of products and services and charges as published from time to time.
- Eligibility

- The Service will not be available to you if you are roaming or making international calls. Applicable roaming and international calling Tariffs as outlined in our Tariff Guide will however apply when you roam or make international calls.
- The Service
- The Preferential Rates are promotional and will be applicable from 20th January 2023 to 21st March 2023. Safaricom retains the right to extend or reduce this period without prior notice to you
- The On-Net Off-Peak Calling Tariff is ETB 0.20 per minute. Safaricom retains the right to amend such Tariff without any prior notice to you.
- You may not be required to opt-in to make use of the Service. The On-Net Off-Peak Calling Tariff is automatically activated during the Off-Peak Hours.
- You will be charged with standard rates (non-Preferential Rates) for Off-Net Calls.
- Repeal of Existing Packages
All previous free or preferential rate on-net off-peak calling tariff is hereby repealed by these Terms and Conditions. - Privacy

- “Gursha Data” means the Gursha Package that enables you to browse data locally and cannot be used when roaming.
- “Off-Net Calls” means calls originating from a Safaricom mobile number and terminating on a mobile number of another licensed Telecommunications Operator in Ethiopia
- “On-Net Calls” means calls originating from a Safaricom mobile number and terminating on another Safaricom mobile number.
- “Recharge and Get” means the Gursha Package availed by Safaricom where, at the time of recharge, you get new minute and data bundles as a bonus (“Gursha”) in addition to your main balance being credited in an equivalent amount of the recharge.

- The Gursha Package is available to you if you are a Prepay Customer of Safaricom.

- Terms of use for the Gursha Package
- You may avail yourself of the Gursha Packages when you recharge your account with any recharge type (including without limitation physical voucher, electronic voucher distribution (EVD), Pin-less voucher, and mobile money airtime top-up).
- The Gursha Package may be used for Gursha On-Net Minutes, Gursha Off-Net Minutes, and Gursha Data as provided in Clause 4 below.
- The Gursha On-Net Minutes, Gursha Off-Net Minutes, and Gursha Data shall have a validity period of seven (7) days.
- The Gursha bundles will be aggregated per bucket; Safaricom will extend the validity of the Gursha buckets for each new recharge.
- You cannot share or transfer balances from your Gursha Package to another SIM Card.
- You can check your remaining balance from the Gursha Package through USSD (*777# and *704#).
- You will receive a threshold notification upon utilization of the Gursha Package. The notification will be sent to you upon reaching the following demarcations: such demarcations may be amended or changed by Safaricom from time to time without prior notice to you.

The following Terms and Conditions apply to the Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC (“Safaricom”) free 1GB WhatsApp monthly package (“the Package”). The Package will be available to you upon registration and activation of your SIM Card. By using the Package, it means you have read, understood, and accepted the Terms and Conditions set out herein.
- Eligibility
The Package is available to you provided that you are registering for a new Safaricom SIM Card. - The Package and terms of use
- The Package will be available to you when you register for a new SIM Card starting from December 9, 2022, up to December 8, 2023 (the “Validity Period”).
- The Package is valid for thirty (30) days and does not roll over beyond thirty (30) days.
- For six (6) consecutive months, the Package will be awarded to you every thirty (30) days on the anniversary of your registration and activation of your SIM Card. Safaricom reserves the right to extend or shorten the Validity Period.
- You can check your balance through USSD (*777#) and (*704).
- You will receive a threshold notification for the resources upon utilization. The notification will be sent to you upon reaching the following demarcations: such demarcations may be amended or changed by Safaricom from time to time without prior notice to you.
- 1GB WhatsApp resources - 100MB, 50MB,10MB and 0MB.
- The Package shall not be transferable.
- The Package can only be used to access WhatsApp through the application or the web.
- If you have an additional data package, airtime balance for out-of-bundle usage, and the Package, priority will be given to the Package for using WhatsApp.
- If you exhaust your Package, you will be charged the prevailing out-of-bundle rates, or normal data package rates if you have an additional data package.
- You cannot opt-out or unsubscribe from the recurring service.
- You cannot use the Packages when you are roaming. Whilst roaming the use of the standard applications will be charged at the normal Safaricom tariff.
- The Package cannot be tethered for use on other devices.
- By using the Package, you are subject to the terms and conditions as well as the privacy policy of the application provider.
- Safaricom is not liable for any faults, glitches, bugs or technical issues that might occur on the standard application (WhatsApp). Furthermore, Safaricom shall not be held accountable for any damages or loss incurred as a result of your use of the platform or application.
- Safaricom is not liable for any third-party content and/or advertisement that might appear while you are using your Package.

For the purposes of these terms and conditions:- “Social Media Package” or “Service” means a data service offered by Safaricom that enables you to access specific applications or contents as per the package category. i.e. TikTok package for access of TikTok application and/or webpage only, YouTube Package for access of YouTube application and/or webpage only.
- “Safaricom” or “Safaricom Ethiopia” means Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC.
- Eligibility
The Service is available to you provided that you are an active Safaricom customer. - How to access and use the Service
- To access the Services, you should follow the following prompts:
- Dial *777# from your data-enabled mobile device.
- Select your preferred one-off Social Media Package.
- Confirm the purchase of your preferred Social Media Package and pay through your airtime (as applicable).
- You will receive an SMS notification confirming the successful purchase of the package.
- The Social Media Package allows you to access TikTok and YouTube platforms.
- TikTok package will only be depleted for the usage of TikTok on the Safaricom network through the relevant application (TikTok application and TikTok Webpage).
- YouTube package will only be depleted for the usage of YouTube on the Safaricom network through the relevant application (YouTube application and YouTube Webpage).
- You can check the balance of the Social Media Package by dialing *777# or *704#.
- You will be notified via SMS alert when your remaining Social Media Package reaches the following balances: 1000MB, 100MB, 50MB, 10MB and 0MB. Safaricom reserves the right to change the threshold for notifications without any prior notice to you.
- Should you exhaust your Social Media Package you can top up your account by dialing *777# and purchasing your preferred Social Media Package.
- The Safaricom Social Media Package shall take priority whenever you access content on the selected / eligible platform (both on the application and on the webpage).
- You may opt out of any recurring Service by dialing *777# and following the prompts.
- To access the Services, you should follow the following prompts:
- Validity of Social Media Package
- The Social Media Packages will have a validity period of twenty-four (24) hours. Unused resources will not roll over.
- The validity of Social Media Packages will be extended only if you buy a similar package before the expiration date. The existing package will then take the validity of the new package.
- If you exhaust the Social Media Package and continue accessing the social media platform, you will be charged from the normal unrestricted packages or out-of-bundle data usage at the prevailing out-of-bundle rates.
- Other Terms of Use
- You cannot share the Social Media Package or transfer it to a third-party device or subscriber.
- The Social Media Package cannot be tethered for use on other devices. Safaricom reserves the right, at its sole discretion and at any time to amend the Social Media Package categories (contents) as well as validity periods according to their identifiable data usage.
- Social Media Packages shall be accessible while browsing on the Safaricom Network without any VPN Tools or Internet Censorship Circumvention Tools.

SAFARICOM ETHIOPIA PREPAY ENTERPRISE BONUS ON RECHARGE PROMOTION TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The following terms and conditions apply to the Safaricom Bonus on Recharge Promotion (“the Promotion”). By participating in the Promotion, it means You have read, understood, and accepted the terms and conditions set out herein.
- Definitions
- “Bonus Airtime” means the airtime awarded to Prepay Enterprise Customers upon topping up or recharging your mobile number.
- “Enterprise Customer or Customer or You” means a registered business, company and any organization including but not limited to government entities, Embassies, and Non-Governmental Organizations.
- “Pin less Top Up” means recharging through bank application.
- “Safaricom” means Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC.
- “USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data)” means Safaricom’s interactive menu which can be accessed by the Customer by dialing the short code designated by Safaricom for the Promotion.
- Eligibility
The Promotion is available to all Safaricom Prepay Enterprise Customers. - Promotion period
- The Promotion shall commence on 13th of March 2023 (“effective date”) and will continue for a period of three (3) months. i.e. (13th of March 2023 to 13th of June 2023).”Promotion period”
- The Promotion period may be extended or amended at the sole discretion of Safaricom.
- The Promotion
- You will be awarded Bonus Airtime when You recharge your prepay account airtime.
- The Bonus Airtime will be rewarded for every top up starting from 25 ETB airtime for the Promotion period. Any Top up values less than 25 ETB will not receive or are not eligible for the Bonus Airtime.
- The recharge shall be through any of the currently available top-up channels (Airtime voucher or pin less top up).
- Safaricom reserves the right to amend the recharge values eligible for Bonus Airtime.
- The Bonus Airtime can be used to make on-net and off- net local calls. However, it cannot be used to buy packages, make international calls, or access roaming services.
- Airtime Purchase and Transfer
- You will be awarded the Bonus Airtime either by purchasing for yourself or for other Prepaid number.
- The Bonus Airtime cannot be transferred to another customer or number.
- Where the Airtime is purchased for your own number, You will receive the airtime purchased and the Bonus Airtime. You will also receive SMS notification to this effect.
- Where Airtime is purchased for another mobile number/receiving number, the number will receive both the Airtime and the Bonus Airtime. The receiving number will also receive SMS notification to that effect.
- You will receive SMS notifications upon receipt of the Bonus Airtime.
- You will be able to request your Airtime balance and view it on USSD through *777#.
- The Bonus Airtime has 30(thirty) days validity period and will be consumed before the purchased airtime.
- Privacy
- Safaricom shall protect and keep your personal information and communication private and shall not disclose it to any unauthorized persons.

Safaricom Ethiopia Terek Be Gursha Terms and Conditions
The following terms and conditions apply to the National Consumer Promotion (the "Terek Be Gursha promotion") and by participating in the Promotion you will be deemed to have read, understood, and accepted the terms and conditions set out therein:
- Definitions
- "Dependent/s" means any person other than an Immediate Family Member currently living with another person or is being supported by such another person for subsistence.
- "Draw Code" means a number that is unique to a customer and a transaction that will be generated when the customer successfully registers a new sim card on the network and successfully recharges, or the customer recharges or customer buys a package.
- "Form of Discharge" means an affirmation to be signed by an award winner representing and warranting that he/she is not an Immediate Family Member of or is not Dependent on any Safaricom employee, distributor and Distributor employees, key account, contractor or any other supplier or vendor to Safaricom, or third party directly involved with the facilitation of the Promotion.
- "Qualifying Products and Services" means the purchase of SIM Card/s, airtime top ups on your line or the purchasing of any Safaricom package on your line.
- "Safaricom" means Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia Plc
- The Promotion
- The Promotion aims to encourage engagement by you as a Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia Plc (“Safaricom”) customer through purchasing of Qualifying Products and Services. You will then qualify to participate in and stand a chance to win any of the daily, Biweekly and Monthly Awards on offer in the Promotion.

- The Promotion Period

- Entry and participation in the Promotion

- Disbursement of Awards and Notification

- Daily bonus airtime winners will receive an SMS from GURSHA_WIN Sender ID notifying them of the bonus airtime award which will be credited into their account. The airtime topped-up will be valid for thirty (30) days from the day of the award.
- Other terms and conditions

- Safaricom reserves the right to verify the validity of entries and to disqualify any entrant who tampers with the entry process or does not meet the eligibility requirements, including but not limited to canvassing or submitting an entry that is not in accordance with these terms and conditions.
- The awards are non-transferable, non-exchangeable, non-refundable and no cash or other alternative shall be offered in place for the Awards.
- By accepting the award, you will be deemed to have granted Safaricom the right to use and publish your name and picture in such media as Safaricom may choose (including but not limited to the internet) for information, advertising and promotional purposes without additional consideration. For the purposes of these terms and conditions:- “Night Internet Package” or “Service” means a data service offered by Safaricom which enables you to access internet during Night Period.
- “Night Period” means the period between 11:00pm and 06:00am (Gregorian time) daily.
- “Safaricom” means Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC.
- Eligibility
The Service is available to Pre-pay customers. - The Service
- The Service is a bundled data offer which gives more value when you use the internet during the Night Period.
- Night Internet Packages are available for purchase for self and may also be purchased for another customer as a gift.
- The Night Internet Packages can be purchased once-off or on auto-renewable (recurring) basis.
- The Packages
- The Night Internet Packages shall be valid for twenty-four (24) hours from purchase; however it shall be used only during the Night period. By way of example, if you buy the Night Internet Package at 4 am, you may use such package during the Night Period until 4 am the next day.
- The details of the Night Internet Packages shall be available on our website, retail stores and upon enquiry into the Call Centre.
- Safaricom reserves the right to amend the offers upon notice on our website, retail any other channels.
- How to access and use the Service
- You can purchase the Night Internet Packages at any time of the day by dialing USSD code *777#.

- Other Terms of Use
- Unused Night Internet Packages will be carried over to the following day if you purchase an additional Night Internet Package before expiry of the existing package. If, however, you do not purchase an additional Night Internet Package, any unused packages will expire at the end of the validity period of the existing package.
- Night Internet Packages will be consumed before any other package you may have purchased.
- Once you deplete the Night Internet Package before the end of the Night Period, consumption will be in order of the prioritization of the data packages available in your account.
- The Night Internet Package will not be transferable.
- You will be notified of your Night Internet Packages consumption when it reaches 1000MB, 100MB, 50MB, 10MB and 0MB usage levels.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR SAFARICOM ETHIOPIA BULK SMS SERVICE FOR ENTERPRISE CUSTOMERS

These Terms and Conditions govern and provide information on the use of Enterprise Bulk SMS Service ("the Service") and constitute an agreement between You (Enterprise Customer) and Safaricom when You use this Service. By using the Service, it means You have read, understood, and accepted the terms and conditions set out in this document.
- Definitions
For the purposes of these Terms and Conditions:- "Bulk Short Messaging Service ("BSMS")" means an automated service that enables businesses to send a large number of SMS messages to multiple defined End-users at the same time.
- "Enterprise Customer" or "Customer" for "You" means the Enterprise Customer who procures the BSMS from Safaricom.
- "Enterprise administrator" is a person assigned by the Enterprise Customer and is responsible for managing the Enterprise Customer’s User account and assigning roles on the bulk SMS portal.
- "End-users" means consumers who receive a text message(s) sent from an Enterprise Customer using the Safaricom portal.
- "Interactive SMS" means a communication protocol that enables a two-way interaction between two systems, typically between an end-user and the Enterprise Customer.
- "Know Your Customer ("KYC")" means an Enterprise Customer identification procedure where an Enterprise Customer’s personal information, such as name, address, and proof of identity is collected to assess the Customer’s risk and financial profile prior to offering the Enterprise Customer a service.
- "Safaricom" means Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC, a company incorporated in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and licensed to provide telecommunication services.
- "Sender ID" means a unique identifier which can either be the name or number assigned by You that enables You to send out Bulk SMS messages.
- "Service" means the Bulk SMS Service.
- "Short Code" means a short numeric code allocated by Safaricom or another telecommunications service provider through which the Service will be provided.
- "Unstructured Supplementary Service Data ("USSD")" means an interactive communication protocol used by mobile phones to communicate with a service provider's computer system.
- Eligibility
- The Service will be available to all new and existing Safaricom prepay and post-pay Enterprise Customers.
- You can use the Service with just a Sender ID, however, for the Service to be interactive, You should use the service with a Short Code.
- Short Codes may be allocated by Safaricom or any other licensed telecommunications service provider.
- For short codes not allocated by Safaricom, the Customer shall provide proof in the form of a confirmation letter from the respective telecommunications provider that You have been allocated the number and are using the Service.
- The Service
- The Service allows You to send a large number of SMS messages to a broad audience at once using a Bulk SMS Sender ID or Short Code that clearly identifies You.
- The Service allows You to send and/or receive SMS messages to/from Safaricom mobile numbers only.
- The Service will be provided or available in areas where Safaricom has network coverage. Safaricom will provide information on its network coverage upon request.
- The Service can be provided in two types of service delivery options i.e., transactional, and promotional as outlined below.
- Transactional Bulk SMS Service: This is an automated system-generated text message that You can send to your End-users to support them when they use your services. It provides timely and reliable information about transactions performed by the End-user. Examples of transactional Bulk SMS Service include bank transactional notifications and message delivery status update.
- Promotional Bulk SMS Service: This is a text message that You send to your End-users with promotional content such as offers, discounts, etc. to increase customer engagement, brand recognition, drive sales, and build customer loyalty.
- The Service is only available to Safaricom numbers. Messages to other telecommunication service providers are not permitted.
- Information about the Service and all service charges are available on our website www.safaricom.et, social media pages, and retail stores.
- The Service can be delivered in English, Amharic, and in one of the official regional working languages in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia.
- You will only be charged for Bulk SMS messages which are successfully delivered to End-users after reconciliation with Safaricom.
- The Service will be offered on prepaid and postpaid basis.
- Transactional Bulk SMS Messages
- You shall integrate your systems with the Safaricom SMS platform API (Application Program Interface) to enable access to the Service and streamline your communication to ensure that you are able to provide automatic alerts for activities such as product purchase confirmation, overdue payments, One Time Password (OTP) notifications, above threshold transactions, low balances, bank statements, etc. to End-users.
- Transactional Bulk SMS messages can be sent at any time.
- Transactional Bulk SMS messages shall not go through the content approval process, and they cannot be blocked by End-users unless they have enabled this functionality on their end as agreed with You.
- You may carry out a survey of your services using the Service. In the case where You carry out a survey for End-users, You should use a Short Code number to create an interactive experience and get important information directly from your End-users.
- Promotional Bulk SMS Messages
- Safaricom will provide a platform for You to create promotional message content and send it to your End-users.
- Promotional Bulk SMS message can only be sent between 2:00 in the morning to 12:00 in the evening Ethiopian Time/8:00AM- 6:00 PM East African Time.
- You shall get explicit consent from your End-users before sending promotional Bulk SMS messages to them and You shall provide proof that you have obtained the consent or the existence of a consent mechanism before using the Service and/upon request by Safaricom.
- All Promotional Bulk SMS messages shall be approved by the Enterprise Customer and Safaricom before they are sent to the End-users. No message shall be transmitted without this approval which shall be timeously given provided the promotional Bulk SMS message meets all the requirements set by Safaricom in line with the applicable law.
- You hereby undertake that You will review and approve the contents of all promotional Bulk SMS messages scheduled to be sent out, and to withdraw messages which in Safaricom’s view are not acceptable. Safaricom will provide the reasons for the rejection of promotional Bulk SMS messages.
- Safaricom will provide End-users the ability to block or report message of sender ID on USSD and/or interactive SMS message if they do not wish to receive promotional messages.
- End-users will not receive promotional Bulk SMS messages after they blocked such messages from You, however, they can re-activate the Service by using the self-service USSD or Interactive SMS channels.
- Promotional Bulk SMS messages shall fulfill the following minimum requirements prescribed in the applicable law, including but not limited to the Advertisement Proclamation No. 759 of 2012 and the Value-Added Services License Directive No. 3/2011.
Promotional Bulk SMS messages shall:
- not be contrary to public moral, religious and other societal virtues.
- be free from misleading, unfair, inflammatory, discriminatory, harassing, demeaning, racial, ethnic, or religious slurs, or degrading statements against any particular individual or group(s).
- respect the society and not infringe on the legitimate interests of End-users.
- describe the true nature, use, quality and other similar information of the product or service intended to be promoted.
- not undermine the goods and/or services of other persons/businesses, and to fully comply with the Ethiopian Trade Competition and Consumer Protection Proclamation No.813/2013 as well as other competition and antitrust related regulations as they may be amended or replaced from time to time.
- protect the dignity and interests of the country.
- respect professional code of conduct as per Advertisement Proclamation No.759/2012.
- not encourage hatred, violence, or discrimination.
- not clash with religious or freedom of political convictions.
- not be inappropriate for children or persons under eighteen (18) years of age.
- not violate equality and rights of nations, nationalities, and people’s identity.
- not induce or promote disharmony or discrimination, superiority or inferiority based on gender, marital status, national origin, religion, language, age, or disability.
- not contravene people's security, peace, health, education, or morals.
- not encourage the commission of crimes or offenses or inciting the consumption of banned substances.
- not undermine the respect for human dignity.
- not contain image, speech or comparisons that violates the dignity, liberty, or equality of mankind in relation to language, gender, race, nation, nationality, profession, religion, belief, political or social status.
- not violate the rules of good behavior or human dignity of individuals, nations, nationalities, or peoples, and defames the reputation of an organization.
- not undermine the national or regional state’s flag, emblem, national anthem or currency.
- not undermine the dignity or emotional feeling of a physically disabled person or a person living with HIV/AIDS or suffering from other diseases.
- not instigate chaos, violence, terror, conflict or fear among people.
- not instigate an action that could endanger the physical or mental health and security of the people.
- not include an obscene message or similar presentation.
- Safaricom shall immediately take appropriate actions including termination of this Service in the event the above provisions are not complied with to protect its rights and/or mitigate the risks to the Company (Safaricom).
- Sender ID
- You must have a unique Sender IDs to send transactional and promotional Bulk SMS messages. You will not be able to send both transactional and promotional Bulk SMS messages using the same Sender ID.
- A Sender ID must have a maximum of 11 characters.
- You can modify or terminate a Sender ID by a formal notice to Safaricom with a letter providing reasons for modification or termination of the sender ID.
- Joining and Usage of the Service
- You must complete the Bulk SMS Service application form available in our retail stores and include all the requirements in order to procure the Service.
- On the Service application form, You shall indicate the Sender ID or Short Code You wish to use, and a description of whether it will be used for transactional or promotional SMS purposes.
- You shall be required to undergo a KYC assessment at the time of onboarding. All KYC documentation should be submitted as per the Safaricom Enterprise Customer segmentation requirement which will be communicated to You during onboarding.
- To use the interactive Bulk SMS (two-way communication), You must have a short code.
- Your Short Code or Sender ID might be a new one or the number already in use on another telecommunication’s operator network.
- Once Safaricom is satisfied that you have met all requirements, the service will be activated.
- Self-service channels for managing Promotional Bulk SMS
- Enterprise Bulk SMS portal -> Message Sender/Enterprise Administrator:
- Once the Service is activated, You will receive your bulk SMS account and password via email that You provided on the Bulk SMS Service application form during onboarding.
- After activation, the Enterprise Administrator shall be able to use a self-service portal to buy SMS units, send BSMS, check the balance of SMS Units, get reports on the number of messages sent and delivered, etc.
- You shall set up a dedicated team consisting of content creator and content approver to undertake a thorough review and approval process for the messages before using the Service as required under Article 5.5 above. You shall provide confirmation of the designated team at the onboarding stage and at any time upon Safaricom’s request.
- USSD & Interactive SMS -> Message recipients/End-users:
- Blocking: End-users shall be able to manage all promotional Bulk SMS messages in one place using the Interactive SMS and USSD channels, and they may also choose to block unsolicited promotional/marketing messages.
- Enterprise Bulk SMS portal -> Message Sender/Enterprise Administrator:
- Applicable Service Charges
- There will be a once off Connection/Set-up fee based on the scope of work and calculated on per hour basis.
- There shall be a monthly usage charge for the service based on the volume of SMSs purchased.
- For Post-pay, You will be required to provide a usage deposit which will be equivalent to the package amount determined by SMS units to be purchased. However, Safaricom reserves an exclusive right to furnish a different credit facility to You based on its own internal policy.
- Monthly Short code subscription fee: If You wish to utilize the service with a Short Code, You must pay for the Short Code usage fee in accordance with Safaricom’s tariffs.
- Re-connection fee – this fee is charged for reconnection of the Service when the Service has been suspended due to non-payment.
- The schedule of applicable charges shall be available on our website (www. safaricom.et) and on our commercial proposal for the service.
- Service Payment Terms
- All payments shall be done by using bank deposit/transfer to a Safaricom designated account or cash payment at Safaricom retail store before service activation.
- Once payment is done, You shall send a scanned receipt of the payment to your dedicated Safaricom Account Manager to proceed with the service activation.
- Minimum Usage- ou shall utilize a minimum of 10,000 BSMSs per month to use the Service. You shall pay the minimum charge for this volume when the payment is due even if You have sent less than 10,000 BSMSs per month. Any change to the charges shall be communicated at onboarding stage and on our platforms (retail store and website).
- Credit Limit- (applicable to Post-pay): You are expected to provide a maximum number of BSMS messages You anticipate to utilize per month. Safaricom Ethiopia will send out a notification to You when You reach your maximum credit limit. The Service will not be discontinued even if You have reached the maximum credit limit allocated to You. Safaricom’s credit terms and conditions shall apply.
- Post-pay:
- You will be billed monthly in arrears based on your usage at the end of the calendar month. Your bill will reflect the total number of BSMS successfully sent out during the month with a specific charging rate and total charge due and payable.
- Bills shall be paid by You within thirty (30) days from the date of issue by Safaricom.
- If You fail to pay your monthly service charge within thirty (30) days of receipt of the invoice, the Service will be suspended until Safaricom receives payment in full.
- Safaricom will not reconnect the Service until the amount due and payable is settled and a reconnection fee under Article 9 is paid.
- Enterprises who mostly use transactional Bulk SMS messages are highly encouraged to use the Post-pay payment mode as the nature of transactional SMS should not be interrupted when the SMS units run out.
- Pre-pay:
- Enterprise Customers will pay in advance for the Service.
- Enterprise Customers may purchase Bulk SMS message units at any time and at multiple times if they have finished units before the end of the month.
- The prepaid service shall be valid for 45 days from date of purchase of the Service.
- Privacy
- Safaricom shall protect and keep your personal information and communication private and shall not disclose it to any unauthorized persons.
- Safaricom shall only process your information in accordance with the law. How Safaricom Ethiopia processes your personal information is detailed fully in our Privacy Policy, which is on Safaricom Ethiopia’s website at www. safaricom.et. and/or available in our retail stores upon request.
- Liability and Indemnity
- You will be liable for contractual, tortious, criminal, civil and any other legal liabilities, including but not limited to complaints from End-users which may arise as a result of your failure to obtain or improperly obtained consent from your End-users.
- You will bear full legal and/or contractual liabilities including but not limited to, tortious, criminal, and civil or any action brought against Safaricom in relation to your acts and omissions arising out of your use of the Service including Your failure to comply with applicable law as outlined under Article 5.
- You will also be responsible for handling any complaints brought against Safaricom from End-Users regarding the Bulk SMS messages sent from your Sender ID or Short Code.
- You agree to compensate and hold Safaricom harmless against any loss, liability, expense, or damage of whatever nature suffered or incurred regarding your use of the Service including but not limited to use of the Service contrary to these Terms and Conditions, applicable law and any:
- and any fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.
- any wrongful act or omission of, or crime committed by You or your representative whilst using the Service.
- any unauthorized disclosure, misuse or misappropriation of confidential information or Safaricom Materials.
- Service Suspension and Termination
- Termination by the Enterprise Customer: The Enterprise Customer may terminate the Service where Safaricom breaches a material provision of these Terms and Conditions which is capable of being remedied and fails to remedy the breach within 30(thirty) days of receipt of the notice from the Enterprise Customer.
- Termination or Suspension by Safaricom: Safaricom shall have the right, upon written notice, to immediately terminate or suspend the delivery of the Services (without liability) in the event that the Enterprise Customer breaches a material term of these Terms and condition as outlined below:
- The Enterprise Customer violates any law, rule, regulation, or policy of any government authority related to the Service or the Enterprise Customer’s use thereof.
- The Enterprise Customer engages in conduct that has caused or may cause material damage to Safaricom’s equipment, network or third parties.
- Any bankruptcy, insolvency, administration, liquidation, receivership or winding up proceedings are commenced against the Enterprise Customer.
- If the Enterprise Customer fails to pay the bills within 30(thirty) days from the date of issue
- In the event Safaricom receives any direction, notification, or instruction from any governmental authority to suspend or terminate the provision of the Service to the Enterprise Customer.
- Termination by either party for convenience: Either party may at its discretion, terminate the Service, with at least one (1) month notice to the other party.
- Consequences of Termination: Upon termination of the Service, the Enterprise Customer shall immediately stop using the Service. Termination of the Service for whatever reason shall not prevent Safaricom from requiring payment for Services already provided to Your/ Your End-users rendered at the time of termination or either party from exercising any rights it has under the Terms and conditions or in law .
- General
- We reserve the right to change this Agreement, charges, and/or terms and conditions relevant to the Services and will inform you about any such changes within a reasonable time, by publishing the same on our website at www. safaricom.et. or in any other relevant way available to us. You are advised to keep checking our website for any changes to the Services and your continued Use of the Services shall be understood to be your acceptance of such changes.
- If there are any differences between the printed version of this Agreement and the online version available on Safaricom’s website at www. safaricom.et, the online version will apply.

- What Information is collected?
The information we collect and store about you includes but is not limited to the following:- Your identity and SIM-card registration information, including your name, photograph, fingerprints, address, location, phone number, identity document type and number, date of birth, email address, age, gender and mobile number portability records.
- Your credit or debit-card information, information about your bank account numbers and SWIFT codes or other banking information. We use the data you provide for billing purposes.
- Your transaction information when you use our MPESA service.
- Your preferences for particular products and services, based on information provided by you or from your use of Safaricom Ethiopia’s (or third party) network, products and services.
- Name, family details, age, profiling information such as level of education, bank account status, income brackets, etc. collected as part of surveys conducted by Safaricom Ethiopia and their agents on behalf of Safaricom Ethiopia.
- Your contact with us, such as when you: call us or interact with us through social media, our chatbot, ‘snail mail’, email (we may record your conversations, social media or other interactions with us), register your biometric information such as your voice, finger prints etc, visit a Safaricom Ethiopia Shop or other retail outlet.
- Your account information, such as your handset type/model, tariff, top-ups; subscriptions (including third party subscriptions), billing statements, cloud hosting registration details, e-commerce registration and usage, M-PESA and mobile money transactions.
- Your call data records: phone numbers that you call or send messages to (or receive calls and messages from), log of calls, messages or data sessions on the Safaricom Ethiopia network and your approximate location (save for customer service interactions as noted above we do not record or store message or call contents).
- We use Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) surveillance recordings. CCTV Devices are installed at strategic locations to provide a safe and secure environment in all Safaricom Ethiopia premises as a part of our commitment to community safety, security and crime prevention.
- When you request us to reserve parking for you, we will collect and retain your personal data (name, telephone number, and vehicle registration details) when you request Safaricom Ethiopia to reserve parking space for you and where you use any of our parking facilities as a contractor. We use the data you provide to ensure effective visitor, contractor and car park management, Health and Safety compliance (orderly entry and exiting to and from the car parks and buildings) and inventory management.
- We maintain a register of visitors in which we collect and keep your personal data such as names, company/institution details, telephone number, vehicle registration details, and Document ID number. This information is collected for health, safety and security purposes.
- When you use Safaricom Ethiopia WIFI for guest and visitors, we collect email IDs and will provide username and password. We record the device address and also log traffic information in the form of sites visited, duration and date sent/received.
- We may use your medical information to manage our services and products to you e.g. when you use our services designed for persons with disabilities.
- Where you use our voice recognition platform (IVR) we may collect and process your voice biometrics.
- We collect your personal information when you visit us for purposes of accident and incident reporting. Safaricom Ethiopia will collect personal data from the injured party or person suffering from ill health, such as, Name, Address, Age, next of kin, details of the incident to include any relevant medical history. The data is collected as Safaricom Ethiopia has a legal duty to document workplace incidents/accidents and to report certain types of accidents, injuries and dangerous occurrences arising out of its work activity to the relevant enforcing authority.
- Incidents and accidents will be investigated to establish what lessons can be learned to prevent such incidents/accidents reoccurring including introduction of additional safeguards, procedures, information instruction and training, or any combination of these. Monitoring is undertaken but on an anonymized basis. The information is also retained in the event of any claims for damages.
- Use of Information
We may use and analyze your information for the following purposes:- processing products and services that you have bought from Safaricom Ethiopia or from third parties on our ecommerce platforms;
- billing you for using our or third-party products or services or taking the appropriate amount of credit from you;
- responding to any of your queries or concerns;
- verifying your identity information through publicly available and/or restricted government databases in order to comply with applicable regulatory requirements;
- carrying out credit checks and credit scoring where applicable;

SAFARICOM TELECOMMUNICATIONS ETHIOPIA WEEKLY DATA PACKAGES TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR ENTERPRISE CUSTOMERS
Welcome to Safaricom.
These Terms and Conditions govern and provide information on the use of Weekly Data Packages (“the Service”) and constitute an agreement between You (Enterprise Customer) and Safaricom when You use this Service. By using the Service, it means You have read, understood, and accepted the terms and conditions set out herein.
- Definitions
For the purposes of these terms and conditions:- “Safaricom” or “Safaricom Ethiopia” means Safaricom Telecommunications Ethiopia PLC.
- “Service” or “Package” means a weekly data package provided by Safaricom that enables You to access the internet at a discounted rate throughout the week as may be amended and communicated by the sole discretion of Safaricom.
- Preferential Rate” means discounted rates applicable for the Service.
- Eligibility
The Service is available to You if You are a prepay Enterprise Customer and onboarded onto the enterprise pre-pay base plan. - The Service/Package
- The Service is a data offer which gives more value when You purchase a weekly Package for a Preferential Rate.
- The Package is available for purchase for self and may also be purchased for another Safaricom Customer as a gift. However, the Package purchased for self cannot be transferred to others.
- The Package can be purchased once-off or on an auto-renewable (recurring) basis.
- The Package shall be valid for Seven (7) days from purchase, after which it will expire.
- Unused Packages will be carried over to the following week if You purchase an additional Package before the expiry of the existing Package; the old Package will take the validity period of the new Package. If, however, You do not purchase an additional Package, any unused Package will expire at the end of the validity period of the existing Package.
- If the Package is depleted before the elapse of the 7-day validity period, data consumption prioritization will be based on the available packages in your account. Where You do not have other packages available and continue accessing the internet without purchasing an additional Package, then consumption will be charged to your airtime account.
- You will be notified of your Packages consumption upon utilizing 50%, 75% and 100% of your Package.
- If You simultaneously have multiple packages, the Packages with the shortest validity period will take precedence of consumption.
- The details of the Package shall be available on our website, in retail stores and upon enquiry into the Safaricom Call Centre (700).
- Safaricom reserves the right to amend the offers upon notice on our website, retail, or any other channels.
- How to access and use the Service
- You can purchase the Package at any time of the day by dialing USSD code *777#.
- You can unsubscribe from any active auto-renewable Package by dialing *777# and selecting the unsubscribe option.
- You can subscribe to more than one Weekly Data Package at a time.
- You can check your Package balance by dialing *704#.
- Privacy
- Safaricom shall protect and keep your personal information and communication private and shall not disclose it to any unauthorized persons.
