Safaricom Ethiopia has registered 1 million active customers on its network, marking a key milestone in operations as it establishes its network across Ethiopia.
With a network footprint across 17 cities, the company has registered an average of 20,000 customers per day since it commenced city-by-city customer pilots in August 2022. This momentum has been further sustained by accelerated growth following a national launch ceremony in October 2022. .
The millionth customer, from Jimma City, will receive an award of 100,000 Birr worth of Safaricom Airtime, one Samsung Phone, five Safaricom Kerefa phones, and five Safaricom M-31 Mifi devices to share with family and friends.
“We are delighted that we have reached the one million customer milestone. We have seen our customer numbers continue to grow and the enthusiastic uptake of our data, devices, voice and SMS packages. As we continue our phased commercial launch, we are receiving positive feedback about the 4G data experience on our network and are excited to continue working towards serving all of Ethiopia, said Anwar Soussa,” CEO, Safaricom Ethiopia.
Safaricom Ethiopia’s “07” network is now switched on in 17 cities (Dire Dawa, Harar, Haramaya, Bahir Dar, Adama, Bishoftu, Mojo, Debre Birhan, Awoday, Gondar, Addis Ababa. Sebeta, Dessie, Kombolcha, Jimma, Shashemene, and Dilla).
With continued investment in infrastructure, partnerships and the network rollout, we will reach more cities and build our network in accordance with the obligations of the Unified Telecommunications Services License.
